Growing up

More and more these days Noah is becoming more of a little boy and less of a baby. We took another step in the growing up process last night as we tranistioned from his crib to his toddler bed. We've somehow been lucky enough to have a little boy that hasn't insisted on climbing out of his crib (which is weird because he climbs everything else), so we've put this off for a while because, well, it's more convenient for us to know he's safe in his crib instead of in a bed he can get out of himself. For various reasons though, I finally decided it was time to make the switch.

Now, his "new" bed, really isn't that different from his "old" bed (this is what he calls them). His crib is one of those 3 in one type deals so you just take the front off and it still has 3 sides in place, the same small mattress, and is super low to the ground. It's a perfect toddler transition bed till he's ready to sleep in a true big boy bed. Despite it not being all that different, he was SOOO excited about making the switch. I was really surprised at how excited he was. And it was really cute.

It was so sweet watching (we have a video monitor) Mike put him to bed...he just climbed right in, was so happy about it, and pulled his blanket up over him. I definitely had a mommy moment as I watched my little boy grow up a little more right before my eyes.

And the best part is that he did GREAT through the night! Mike and I couldn't believe how easily he went down and stayed in bed--not once did he even play like he was going to get out of bed. Just rolled over and went right to sleep. As we were getting ready for bed, Mike checked the monitor and saw that Noah had gotten pretty close to the edge of the bed. Since its so close to the floor, we didn't put up any rails to keep him in. Sure enough, as Mike watched (I wasn't quick enough to get over to see it), Noah rolled right out of bed! Being the good parents we are, we cracked up. Even funnier, it didn't even phase him. He just climbed right back in bed, covered himself back up and went back to sleep. He didn't make a sound and I'm not even sure he opened his eyes!

I think he fell out again a little later in the night. I heard him crying and looked at the monitor and saw him sitting on the floor by his bed. By the time I got to his room, he was at the door. We talked for a minute about him needing to stay in bed till it's light out and we come get him, I rubbed his back and tucked him back in, and off to sleep again he went! And there wasn't a peep from him again till he woke up at 730 this morning!

Now, just in case he got up and decided to try to wander the house in the middle of the night, I did put up a baby gate right outside his shut door. Sure enough, when I went in this morning, he had his door open and was standing at the gate saying "I'm out, I'm out!" We'll be keeping the gate up for a while till we see how he does. And I've put some pillows on the floor at the edge of the bed because I have a feeling last night won't be the last time he falls out...he's always moved around a lot in his sleep.

He went down just as easily for nap time just a little while ago. Now, I'm not going to get too far ahead of myself but so far I am VERY pleased with how this transition has gone! We'll see if he keeps it up. I'm psyching myself up to potentially start potty traning this weekend. Now that would really be taking some steps toward being a big boy! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I may have just purchased my last box of diapers for him today. Stay tuned...
